In The Exchange’s fun and relaxed 4-week Saturday morning Mending Course, you will learn hand stitching techniques that will enable you to start or improve your textile mending journey, bringing new life to clothes and other textile items. In the long run, this will help you to save money and help you to be an active player in the fight against environmental decline.

All equipment and materials will be provided by The Exchange. If you would like, feel free to bring along your own items for repair.

  • Week 1 – Patch sashiko

  • Week 2 – Darning

  • Week 3 – Introduction to Swiss darning

  • Week 4 – Mending knits – Swiss darning

Workshop Lead: Sarah Batten

Sarah is a Founding Co-Director of The Exchange, an organisation set up to celebrate the power that craft can have on community and place, and the Textiles Lead within the organisation. Sarah is a committed mender, has a Masters in Cultural Heritage and qualifications in various craft and design practices including embroidery from the Royal School Needlework and Sustainable Pattern Cutting from Central Saint Martins.
