CERAMIC BOX WORKSHOP

Join our Ceramics Workshop Manager, Ho, for a fun handbuilding class, where you will be creating round slab boxes - exploring the functional possibilities that slabwork offers.

You will leave the class with a round ceramic box that can be used as a tea caddy, biscuit jar or jewellery box. Decorated with the sgraffito technique using white slip, inside of the box will be glazed with matte white glaze. Each student will be provided with a set amount of clay, and if you would like to use and fire more clay, there will be a £10/kg fee to cover clay, handling and firing.

The class will begin with the teacher giving a demonstration, then students will start with the very basics - rolling the clay slab and forming the boxes. Then you’ll move onto applying slips and playing with sgraffito, a carving technique for surface decoration. Once the class is finished, we will fire and glaze your piece for you.
