6-week Hand Building Pottery Class: 6/6
Join us on a Saturday morning for a 6-week hand building pottery class.
Pottery hand building is a wonderful way to create your own unique clay creations using just your hands and some simple tools. In this course, you will learn how to coil, pinch, and slab clay to make a variety of beautiful pottery items.
One of the first techniques you will learn is pinching - pinching clay involves using your fingers to shape and mould the clay into different forms, such as cups or plates. You will then learn coiling, where you roll out long ropes of clay and stack them on top of each other to create shapes like bowls or vases. Slab building involves rolling out flat pieces of clay and then cutting and piecing them together to make larger objects like boxes or trays.
At the end of the course, all participants will be able to choose one of their own pieces to have glazed and fired to take home and keep.
Designed and led by Merissa Hylton, a multidisciplinary artist and educator based in London.
£220 | Course start date - Saturday 15 March

A Shoddy Workshop - Textile Scrap Management
We are reaching out for support from the community to help sort out our Textile scraps so that we can improve our waste management processes and create new and beautiful "Shoddy" community projects.
Participants on the day, will help us split our scraps into different piles:
- For composting (i.e. tiny bits of natural fibres, shredded finely)
- For "Weaving Out Waste" projects (longer pieces of natural fibre fabrics, that can be used for future weaving projects)
- For "Repair // Rewear" (square/rectangle pieces of natural fibre fabrics, that can be used for patches, sashiko etc., to repair good-quality clothing)
- For "Crafters for Change" (other fabrics that can be used to create well-made long-lasting items made through community-initiative Crafters for Change)
- The No Good pile (i.e. tiny bits of non-natural fibres)
This workshop is part of a bigger strategy for better dealing with our waste at The Exchange, creating more circular economies. This will include a new Import Policy in the Textiles Workshop, which will enable us to incrementally lessen our environmental impact.
To say thank you, everyone that is able to help us for an hour will receive a FREE COFFEE voucher for the Garden Room.

6-week Hand Building Pottery Class: 5/6

3-week Introduction to Radio Journalism - Youth Course: 3/3
Are you aged between 14 and 18 and interested in radio? Journalism? Podcasts? YouTube?
In An Introduction to Radio Journalism, you’ll learn all about media production by getting to grips with equipment and creating a radio news segment.
This is a free course that lets young people get more hands-on experience with creating the content they read, listen to and watch. It is designed to teach young people the full extent of what goes into creating the media around them; be it serious new programmes, investigative podcasts or even celebrity TikToks.
You will have access to training with recording equipment and editing software, meaning you can get really stuck in! Over the 3 sessions, members will create a full local radio news segment, taking ideas from planning, through recording and editing, and into post-production. You will learn new technical skills, work with recording equipment and get insights into how the media industry works. This course will also develop teamwork skills as members will collaborate together on making their final product.
This course is designed and led by Robert Gammon-Ross, a local freelance content writer, audio producer and video editor.
