After the talk there will be a chance to ask questions, and to practice some words in various dialects.
5pm : “The Deathless Woman” film viewing.
Reserve your free ticket HERE.
This film is a fantastical re-imagining of the history of the Roma people. From the murder of a Roma matriarch by Nazi soldiers in a forest in Poland in 1942 to the rise of the far-right in contemporary Europe, this dark thriller takes us on an intense journey led by the ghost of the Roma matriarch and a character based on the filmmaker herself.
This hybrid documentary combines first-person testimony with Mortimer’s unique style of re-enactment where she hand-builds all of her sets – from the birch forest of the Deathless Woman’s grave, to a scale model of the Gypsy camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau, to the underwater aftermath of a Nazi massacre in Hungary. An elegiac and urgent film. A ghost story for the 21st Century.
6:30 - 7:30pm : Panel Discussion with Director Roz Moritmer, artists Dan Turner and Eva Lis.
Join us in the evening of the Workshop Day as the artists discuss their art, the exhibition and the film “The Deathless Woman”.
