The Discuss and Decolonise group is a place to learn, discuss, process, work together, and discover new ways to think about anti-racism. This group is for the community, therefore we welcome everyone to come and join in with the discussion. We welcome all views as long as we stay respectful and understanding.

We are currently focussed on ‘Decolonising Arts & Crafts’ - processing the extent in which differing histories and narratives still effect makers, our definition of ‘craft’ and how the heritage, arts and crafts sector is addressing this.

Every session we will have a new guest to join in with the discussion including artists, activists and academics. We hope these new perspectives will add to the discussion and help us further understand decolonisation and individual experiences.

This session, we welcome filmmaker, Esi Eshun to join the discussion and bring their view as an artist to the group.

Esi Eshun is a London based artist and researcher who works primarily with text, sound and performance to investigate hidden colonial histories and their ecological perspectives. Her solo and collaborative projects have been presented across a range of platforms in the UK and internationally, including at the forthcoming Estuary Festival, the Folkestone Fringe, the Sharjah Architecture Triennial and the 2020 Berlinale. She has delivered talks at institutions including the ICA, Royal College of Art, Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts, Canterbury, and Bard College, New York.

During this event we will embark on an exploration into the ideas of Postcolonialism in a workshop that brings together topical news stories, examples of Postcolonial artworks from around the globe, an open forum for discussion, and interactive activities that put you at the centre of contemporary debates around objects, legacies and museums holdings.
