OAK GALL INK MAKING

In this practical workshop you will learn how to create your own ink using tannin rich Oak ‘Galls’. These are small growths produced by the oak tree to protect itself and they are foraged from the woodland floor when they drop in Autumn. You will learn the fascinating natural history of this medieval ink recipe and Artist Anna Hughes will also demonstrate how to use the ink to create botanical illustrations. Participants will have time to experiment with these techniques and will leave this class with a recipe and instruction card, and a labelled bottle of your own handmade ink
